Virtual Field Trips

Virtual Field Trips (VFT'S) are conducted virtually, over the Internet and videoconferencing equipment, so students can learn directly from experts in far-flung places without ever leaving their classrooms.

Types of VFT's
  • Interactive VFT'S- are synchronous, real-time experiences in which students in one location learn from informal educators in another location.

Ex: museum, historic castle, NASA.

  • Asynchronous VFT'S- not delivered in real time. Websites that include text, audio, or video resources.

ex: a streaming video tour of a location, podcast of a host.

Virtual Field Trips differ from traditional ones because they are delivered over the Internet using technology in the different types of formats.
