Poor Scholar's Soliloquy
In the story giving by the 7th grader he touched on many subjects and how he couldn't grasp the context. His teachers used instructional strategies by giving him work to complete, terms to memorize, or mathematical story problems. The seventh grader was more of a constructivism learner. His teachers should have related the curriculum to something that he found interesting. For example he had a huge interest in trucks, catalogs that were to help (give important info), building things to his interest, and more. There should have been more hands on activities where the teachers were helping him. Participation in the classroom with peers is key.
WHAT TEACHERS SHOULD HAVE DONE
I believe that first the teacher should have had an one-on-one session with the student, to see where he was struggling. If they went by the 3 main ingredients for successful integration of technology they would've had better results. First and foremost they should've observed his learning style. Using phase 1 of the TIP model they could analyze what he needs help on and how they can effectively teach it. Phase 2 is when the teachers plan to integrate technology. For starters they could have used some online system made for mathematics that gave him lessons and practice test. The results could show how well he is progressing. Or they could assess his progression in the woodshop class by how well his project was. Phase 3 includes on what went well and how they can work on the things that didn't go well.
